August DMM Update

Postal Explorer (pe.usps.com) is your source for up-to-date mailing standards. The Domestic Mail Manual is fully searchable and features fly-out menus, cross-reference links, and an extensive subject index. Today we updated our mailing standards with the following changes:

New Online Options for Post Office Box Customers

We revised 508.4.0 to add convenient online options for Post Office box customers. Customers can now apply and pay for a new box, make renewal payments, and establish recurring payments at usps.com/poboxes.

Automation Letter-Size Mailpieces With Discs

We revised 201.3.1 and added new 201.3.3 to provide new optional standards for automation letters containing compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs).

Periodicals Carrier Route Flats

We revised 707.23.7 to allow mailers to combine Periodicals carrier route flats for Post Office box distribution into multi-box section bundles when there are fewer than six copies to a box section. The new option can improve service while reducing handling and transportation costs.

New Price Marking Options

We revised 202, 245, 302, 345, 402, 445, and 604 to provide new price-marking options for Standard Mail, as well as letters or flats included in an automation mailing that bear a manifest keyline.

Day-Old Poultry

We revised 601.9.3.2 to add day-old emu chicks to the list of poultry accepted for mailing.

Letters and Cards Prepared in Trays

We revised 235, 245, 335, 365, 465, and 707 to clarify that automation and machinable card- and letter-sized pieces in overflow or less-than-full trays are bundled only to retain the orientation of the pieces within the tray. These bundles do not require an optional endorsement line or a barcoded bundle label.

Collect on Delivery Service

We revised 609.14 to clarify the mailing standards for Collect on Delivery (COD) service.

Labeling Lists

We revised the labeling lists to reflect changes in the mail processing operations.

Our next scheduled update is September 11.
